mountain road with bottles on guard rail...

Postby RideWV on Tue Apr 29, 2008 1:15 pm

Moved away from SW WV 6 years ago. While down there I once road down a mountain in the Herndon, Mullens area that has a section with bottles sat on the guard rail for miles. Which road was that? I can't for the life of me remember.

I'm sure that's it too. The map just doesn't match up exactly to my memory. I'm building a "black diamond" kind of route to ride in a couple weeks down that way. Has anyone ridden rt. 160 from Cumberland KY to Applachia? I think it's called Trail of the Lonesome Pine. My route basically runs rt 58 to Damascas, down to Mountain City, across The Snake, over to Harlan KY for supersecret twisties road in US (supposedly), then rt. 160 to Appalachia, and then various roads yet to be plotted back to Rural Retreat. I know I'd like to do 91 over the mountain instead of Rt 16 (just did 16 recently).

Man!!, I planned to check out 160 to Appalachia last year but only made it as far as Cumberland before having to turn back. I will be anxiously awaiting your ride report :D

I can highly recommend 119 from Oven fork to Whitesburg, and depending on what you're riding , KY 1679 cuts across the ridge to Kingdom Come SP.. its like they converted an old jeep trail into a smooth paved road..very remote, 8/10ths of a lane, loads of fun, new pavement, nice spots to stop!:

Even on the mighty FJ it was a friggin HOOT!

My route includes KY1679 all the way from the beginning near Harlan. I've heard great things about this road. FYI, I'm going to do this loop on a DR650. I had a Kawasaki GPZ1100 until a month or so ago. The DR is fun on the ultra technical roads, pavement can be horrible, no problem.
