Moving To WV

Postby philwecksr on Sat Mar 01, 2008 12:37 am

Hey all...

I'm moving to West Virginia for work here in a couple months, (June probably), Rainelle to be exact. I got this website from a friend on another board (Breeze on KatRiders).

Looking forward to meeting new people in the area as well as getting to live near the awesome roads instead of having to do an hour of highway before the fun begins... lol

I'm also looking for any advice on finding housing in the area. My work will be in Rainelle and I'd rather not have to commute more than 20-30 minutes each way at most. I've looked at a few homes in Rainelle and Rupert, but I'm not sure what kind of communities these are or anything like that. Not to imply I think they are bad communities, but you guys (and girls) live here and would know better than I.

Thanks again and I look forward to meeting you guys

:welcome

I actually lived in Rainelle for my 5-7th grade years and still have some family that live there.

Awesome bike roads around but that's about it.

You can check out Lewisburg for housing....the place is growing like crazy but parts of it is a historic disctrict so prices can be quite high. You can also look towards Meadow Bridge but the wintertime commute would probably suck on RT20.

There's some houses on out RT60 past Sam Black---Clintonville area.

I'd probably look at the Lewisburg area....much more conveniences out there. You could even look at White Sulphur but that's pushing your commute time.

:welcome to the group...
rainelle is one of our regular stops when we ride north from beckley. rt60 that runs through rainelle has some sweet twisties. and one of the best sections is right there in rainelle.
as for housing and commuting i would try to find something less than 15 miles away. due to the winter travel. here's a list of towns/area i would look at.
lilly park ( just outside of town)
spring dale ( just outside of town)
meadow bridge ( about 12 miles away but not a bad raod)
charmco ( about 5 miles away and easy drive with no mtns)
hines
rupert
crawley
dawson

places that are ok but the winter travel might get to you
alta
lewisburg ( a nice with all your local stores, restaurants, auto shops even the state fair)
clintonville ( one of our newest members "Philster" lives here )
quinwood (close but you have to go up a really twisty mtn in the winter)
maywood ( really close but you have to go up a really twisty mtn in the winter)

i hope this helps. if you come in on a weekend i woul be happy to show you around. that area..

:welcome to the board...

You'll be moving just in time for the riding season to get really going in that area. Hope you don't miss much.

I only travel through those areas (at a decent clip) so I can't really give advice on where to live. My only suggestion would be to stay away from Clintonville since the name might have some negative connotations associated with living there.

:welcome

I live in Clintonville. I would look for a place between Sam Black and Rainelle.

Not for sure what you are looking for but I can keep my eyes open....once the cigar smoke clears out of my shield. :?
